Document Summary

You need channel for action potential because ions have to cross a membrane. An action potential will result in a local effect. You can have local effects without an action potential. 3 kind of muscle; skeletal (striade) , cardiac, smooth. In all 3, contractions are produced by the same proteins, but they"re arranged differently. Skeletal muscle is any muscle you can point to in your body. Smooth muscle occurs in organs with a space in the middle of them; blood vessels, gut, airways, glands, tubules, eye, something with lumen (space). Skeletal muscle organized in antagonistic pairs- bend elbow by contracting bicep muscle, then extend muscle by pulling with the triceps (not pushing with bicep). Work of the muscle always done by shortening, contracting. 2: structure- start with a muscle, connective tissue. Contractile stuff looks like cable races- long, straight bundles of fiber.
