The presentation of self in everyday life: importance of human interaction, impression management. Life is like a stage and we are all actors on it. How does it relate to our everyday life: creating the persona around certain people/groups, the impression you give off to people, the performance you put on for people in certain situations. Impression management is the basis of social interaction. What does goffman think humor comes from: impressions fail; that"s where humor comes in, humor is when impressions fail, when the persona fails, the society thinks it is funny. Their impression management fails: happens to a lot of people in positions in authorities. What might it mean that we all wear masks: people acting a certain way in certain situations, acting differently when you rst meet someone vs. when you know someone for years, a version of your personality. Goffman says we look for aw in each other"s performances .
