Qualitative research is defined by words while quantitative research is defined by numbers. Quantitative research cannot be completed without qualitative research first as it can eventually help in identifying what needs to be studied quantitatively. Quantitative research utilizes statistics to look at patterns in data while qualitative research utilizes unstructured or semi-structured techniques to look deeper into a problem. You need qualitative research to get to complete quantitative research while you need quantitative research to complete qualitative research. Obviously you cannot use (cid:395)ualitati(cid:448)e te(cid:272)h(cid:374)i(cid:395)ues to look at (cid:374)u(cid:373)(cid:271)e(cid:396)s (cid:449)hile (cid:455)ou (cid:272)ould(cid:374)"t take quantitative techniques to look at qualitative issues. I think this also brings up the importance of clinical versus statistical significance that we were discussing in class. This may involve conducting surveys and interviews with depression and anxiety patients.
