Reticular fibers are made out of protein collagen. Find these fibers in organs that serve as filters, such as spleen (filters blood for foreign materials, lymph nodes filter interstitial fluid for foreign materials ex cancer cells, bone marrow make blood cells) Cartilage tissue that has a semi-solid (gel) matrix principle cell is chondrocytes which produce molecule called chondroitin sulfate that converts the matrix of proper epithelium into a semi-solid matrix. Semi-solid b/c it is a cushion or shock-absorber. Consists of collagenous fibers or elastic fibers depending on type. In order to have fibers, you also need fibroblasts. Hyaline makes up fetal skeleton convert to bone eventually. Table 4. 11 3 types of cartilage. Hard to see collagenous fibers there are chondrocytes inside lacuna to protect them so they don"t get squeezed when the matrix is converted from syrupy to semi-solid/gel material.
