Superior vena cava - large vein that"s bringing blood back from upper 1/3 thoracic region inferior vena cava very large vein returning blood from the rest of the body from top 1/3 of thoracic on down. Right ventricle receives blood from the right atrium. Pulmonary trunk - big vessel leaving the right ventricle; vessel that is only about. 1-1. 5 inch long bifurcates or divides into right & left pulmonary arteries. Blue because they are carrying deoxygenated blood being carried to the heart. These go to the lungs, get rid of carbon dioxide & take on new load of oxygen. This oxygenated blood comes back to the heart at the left atrium by way of pulmonary veins (2) coming in from each lung.
