Methodological implication is that phenomena studied by cognitively oriented personality psychologists and those studied by trait psychologists may not be as different as sometimes presumed. Being assessed as schematic for given trait and attaining high trait using conventional personality inventory (ex: cpi) seem to have same implications for response time and other indications of cognitive processing. One"s self-view conceptualized as either schema or trait may have important consequences for how one processes information. Being schematic for personality trait such as sociability, responsibility, or shyness amounts to being an expert about that trait. May keep one from seeing beyond boundaries of own self-image. Self-reference effect = the enhancement of long-term memory that comes from thinking of how information relates to the self.
