How can reentry be successful: preparing for reentry, building bridges between prisons and communities, seizing the moment of release, strengthening the concentric circles of support, promoting successful reentry. 48 hours without approval: obey all parole agent instructions, not commit crimes, other special conditions. Many california parolees failed on supervision before realignment. Realignment in ca reduced technical violators to prison. In summary, 4 policy options: implement better in-prison programs, change prison release and/or revocation decisions, implement better post-release supervision or treatment, develop community partnerships to increase social capital, resources available in community. Prison population trends in california: state prison population has declined over the past decade, overall us trends are similar. Most states have reduced incarceration; some states have increased. States with highest incarceration rates are in the south: louisiana, mississippi, alabama, texas, oklahoma highest us rates, southern states have long sentences, more african-americans in the south.
