Document Summary

It is a picture of oneself i. e. what one considers one to be. Self-concept will also depend on how others view you as an individual. Interactionist argue that an individual develops self-concept which has an influence on his/her actions depending on whether your esteem is high/low. In other words, our actions as individuals are shaped by our self-concept. Labelling and the self-fulfilling prophecy emanates from the individual self-concept which is also largely a reflection of the reaction of others towards individuals if a child labelled is labelled dull his/her work may slip hence fulfilling the prophecy. Education has to place emphasis on individual differences. Each individual pupil should be given attention and be understood and assisted in every way possible. Content should be structured to suit the individual pupil"s level of understanding. According to the zimbabwean curriculum, teachers should provide learning conditions which are conducive to individual pupils. Pupils should be allowed to negotiate roles in the classroom.
