This is what happens primarily in a classroom. It is structured, controlled and directed by the teachers who are professionals. It can occur anywhere and at any time. It involves the imitation of what others do and say. Agents are individuals for instance brothers, sisters, aunts etc. Agencies are institutions/organisations for instance the school, person etc. The school is an extension of the home, it reinforces and extends the process of socialisation which begins at home. The school provides children with the tools they will need such as reading and writing. The school also provides the hidden curriculum i. e. the respect one grants to others, greeting elders and those in authority and stigmatisation attached to lower streams in the schools leading to the self-fulfilling prophecy. It refers to people who have similar levels of social standing especially in-terms of age, education and those who probably reside in close proximity.
