EDU 211 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Economic Mobility, Conscientiousness
Document Summary
Kids don"t learn from people they don"t like. You say it long enough; it starts to be a part of you: can be good or bad. 18 sucks the life out of you, +2 says it"s not all bad: i really like this. Now teaching low-income children isn"t a side issue, it"s the job of the american public. Unless kids get a college degree their economic mobility is severely restricted. Less fortunate kids are often more difficult for teachers: to help this, everyone can help, not just parents or teachers. Non-cognitive or soft skills: perseverance, conscientiousness, self-control, optimism. **environments can create biological changes in brains/bodies of young people: this is crazy to me, no agreement on what to do makes no changes happen. *non-cognitive skills: important element especially with low-income students. Want to create a gender inclusive world: the world should be safe for everyone, no-one should be discriminated against based on their gender.
