Maybe we are just not to that point in our relationship: experiment: cognitive dissonance with festinger & Carlsmith (1959: procedure: 71 college students were in a 2 hours experiment that was said to be a measure of performance. Participants were asked to take out each spook 1 by 1. Once they got all the spools off, they were asked to put them back on. Then, the second task had a board with 48 square pegs. Asked participants to turn each of the pegs a quarter turn, then do that again until they had returned all the pegs to the original position by quarter turns for 30 minutes. Purpose was to get them in a bad mood with boring manual tasks. Of the participants were told they"d be paid . At the end, they asked the original participant how much they enjoyed doing the boring tasks.
