Length of time for which person/animal/thing lives or functions. Study of growth and adaption across the life span. Important to understand the development of our children, parents, friends, relatives, etc. Unique aspects but experience similar milestones/stages of growth/development. Can lead up to or follow the event. Can include a variety of historical, social, and/or psychological factors. Ex: shy child because of a new school. Cohort: a group of people that were born at the same time/passing through time together (ie. peers) Friends and classmates are members of your cohort but it is also everyone who was born at the same time as you. You don"t share geographic location with your cohort. Share different values, experiences from the cohort before/after them. Life expectancy: numbers of years a newborn can expect to live. Context life experiences: income, educational opportunities. , access to healthcare. Cohort: 1980"s and 1990"s have different life expectancy. Human development occurs continuously through the life span.
