DEP 2004 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Social Learning Theory, Classical Conditioning, Operant Conditioning
Document Summary
Results from the research studies are used to reformulate theories. Use theories to help understand and predict development (practitioners, e. g // doctors) Learning: permanent change in behavior that occur due to experience. Learning theories are conceptual frameworks, helps explain how knowledge is absorbed, process, and retained. Conceptual framework: a collection of linked assumption, principles, and rules that hold together ideas comprising a broad concept. Learning theories try to clarify how relatively permanent changes in behavior occur. Theories may emphasize two general areas (bio/environmental) Nature: biological or genetic contribution to human development. Nurture: environmental or social contributions to human development. Can explain human development in nature, nurture, or combination of both. A learning process that occurs when two stimuli are repeatedly paired; a response that is at rst elicited by the second stimulus is eventually elicited by the rst stimulus alone. Stimulus: a thing or event that evokes a reactions. Purpose: behavior can be broken down into simple stimulus-response relationships.
