HSC 3243 Lecture Notes - Lecture 14: List Of Fallacies, Critical Thinking, Creativity
Document Summary
Module 14 notes - critical and creative thinking. Critical thinking is defined as the approach to inquiry where both students and faculty examine clinical and professional issues and search for more effective answers. It consists of a composite of knowledge, skills or processes, and attitudes. Knowledge is an understanding of what constitutes a valid inference, an abstraction, and a generalization. The more knowledge we possess about something, the more effectively we can think about it. There are qualitative differences in the way experts and novices focus on subject matter knowledge. Experts view the subject matter knowledge and recognize patterns and principles in a problem. In the game of chess, an expert player can foresee future moves, while a novice player can only see one move at a time. Skills or processes are the particular steps and techniques that can be shown to be more effective than other methods in a particular circumstance.
