Most of the time people took the law into their own hands, but now we were moving away from informal ways of seeking justice by having circuit judges. Established british common law (the basis of canadian criminal law) Circuit judges came together and compared notes, they were trying to establish. Thus led to the british common law. Stare decisis the rule of precedent. Similar cases should be handed similar sentences. Courts must abide by prior decisions in future cases disclosing the same facts. If people look at past cases they can predict what punishment they would receive. The king derived his right to rule directly from the will of god. A supernatural authority, authorized by god to rule, inherited his power directly from god.
