Causation is only required in the kinds of crimes that have a result usually, it"s written in the statute; but if it is not, you imply it if there is a result. However, it is possible to roll it back too far. But for causation can draw a very wide circle . Intervening causes generally does not cut off liability responsive causes: we"re on the 45th floor. Prof pulls out a gun and shoots at christian, but misses. Christian freaks and jumps out the window and dies from the fall. Deminimis causes: prof takes christian and cuts his throat he would bleed to death in. 30 minutes; jason comes by and widens the cut, so he dies a bit sooner. Tells him to go stand on the golf course. He"s not hit, but gets eaten by a lion on the other side of the road. Free, deliberate, informed action: can be a superceding cause.
