Document Summary

One neuron communicates with another by releasinga neurotransmitter. Many neurons converge on a singer neuron to integrate multiple inputs. One neurons outputs may diverge to spread info to many other neurons. There are 100 trillion synapses in the body. Contains synaptic vesicles (which contain the neurotransmitter) When ap arrives at axon terminal, neurotransmitter is released. Neurotransmitter diffuses across cleft, and binds to the receptor on the post synaptic membrane. Result is opening or closing of ion channels. Effect of neuro transmitters release could bea depolarization- excitatory. Effect of neurotransmitter release could be hyper- polarization- inhibitory. From cns to rest of body (efferent) (motor neurons) Info about blood pressure, blood oxygen etc. Nerve- group of many nerve fibers (axons) traveling together in the pns. Pathway or tract- group of axons traveling together in the cns. White matter- a nerve or a pathway (tract) Ganglion- a group of neuron cell bodies in pns. Nucleus- a group of neuron cell bodies in cns.
