BIOL 123 Lecture Notes - Lecture 20: Chinky, Zygospore, Gametangium
Document Summary
Chinky cunts milk zebras at a bar. Cryptomycota occur in water and soil and lack chitin walls. Flagellate cells and non-flagellate cell stages in life cycle. Chytrids primarily live in water or soil but posses chitin walls. Occur as single celled chitin walled sporesnuceli. Hyphal branches who cytoplasm is isolated from the rest of the mycelium by cross walls. If food is low and compatible mating strains present then gametangia of compatible types fuse as well as the gamete cytploplasms. Results in a sporangium that contains many hploid nuclei that will fuse and are called zygosporangium. A sngle dark pigments thick walled multinucleate zygospore matures within each zygosporangium and are releases. When in a favorable environemtn the nuclei in zygospores undergo meiosis and germinate and make hplaoid spores athat disperse and form aseptate hyphae. Form mutually benficial mycorhizal associations with plants. Ascomycetes produce secual spores in a saclke asci. Decomposers, pathogens, many form lichen, some are mycorrizhal.
