BUSAD 120 Lecture Notes - Lecture 29: Whistleblower, Fiduciary
Document Summary
Internal whistle blowing: an example would be where an employee tells his/her manager/supervisor about a problem that is occurring in the business (ex: the employee has become aware that the company is producing defective products in good faith) External whistle blowing: an example would be where the company did not act upon the employee"s internal complaint to his/her manager/supervisor, and the problem has not been solved. It is an optional recourse: while the employee has a fiduciary duty to the company and must protect confidential info, the employee has a parallel ethical duty to society to protect society against harmful business practices. Reasonable notice ccq 2091: either party can terminate an employment contract for an indeterminate term by giving notice to the other party. Charter: when hired for a fixed term, employment terminates at the end of the term, on a fixed date. No notice of termination needs to be sent by employer.
