Is a process by which an individual, institution, or educational program is evaluated and recognized as meeting certain predetermined standards through successful completion of a valid & reliable examination. There is no national certification for fitness professionals. At present, the various exercise science certifications are largely unregulated. We are in a questionable position in relation to other allied health fields! States introducing legislature to license personal trainers. These require widely varying qualifications, some so minimal as to not require a college degree. This is resulting in more & more lawsuits in the fitness industry. Certification has increasingly become a condition of employment, retention, and/or advancement. Use a reputable national organization that requires rigorous study and examination to achieve the certification. National board of fitness examiners (nbfe) (formed in 2003) Afaa aerobics & fitness association of america. Acsm promotes & integrates scientific research, education & practical applications of sport medicine and exercise science. Have national meetings, regional meetings, publish journals.
