Absorption- process of taking substances into the interior of the body. Protease enzymes- breaks down proteins into amino acids. Lipase enzymes break down fats into fatty acids and glycerol. We cant digest fiber because we don"t make enzymes that break it down-need cellulose. Small intestine- 3-10 hours to move through. Mucosa- absorption of digestive end products in gut wall. Function of mucus- lines mucosa, moistens, lubricates and protects gi tract, mouth, stomach, intestine. Carbohydrate digestion- salivary amylase- produced in salivary glands, works in mouth.
