Hiv is always replicating in the body; it never goes latent. When t-cells goes to fight hiv, hiv infects the t-cells and they are killed. The body then sends another set of t-cells to fight hiv, and they also become infected and die and the cycle repeats: two modes of infections occurring with hiv, active infection. Spread via hiv infected cells to other parts of the body including the brain. Through blood and by macrophages, dendritic cells, cd4+ t cells, free virus, etc. The pool of na ve t-cells becomes slowly drained: latent infection (in lymphoid tissues) Caused by infected t4 cells becoming memory cells (resting)
