Objectives: at the end of this class you should be able to: describe the different types of conflict in teams, discuss the influence of these types of conflict on team performance, describe best practices in conflict resolution. Task conflict aka cognitive conflict- conflict about what the team"s task is. Process conflict- argument about how the task should be done. Group conflict asymmetry- disagreement within the group about what"s going on loss in performance and creativity. Types of conflict and work team effectiveness. For high-performing team, conflict increases towards the end. For low-performing team, conflict is moderate to high conflict is inevitable. Process conflict low-performing team = same trend as task conflict high-performing team = u-shaped starts off high at the beginning, then decrease at the midpoint, but then increase again towards the end.
