Sympathetic vs. parasympathetic nervous systems- arousing/alerting vs calming/healing. Brain areas- frontal lobe (produces and reduces emotions), right frontal lobe (anxiety, sadness, depression)/ left frontal lobe (increases positive feelings and reduces anxiety), limbic areas (hypothalamus- basic drives, amygdala- arouses/alerts, thalamus- routes information to proper response, pituitary gland-release hormones) Facial expressions home read- do other people"s facial expressions affect us and to what extent. All cultures- not very good at spotting deception (liars), good at honesty and anger. Gender differences- females have a higher e. i. , females are also better at conveying happiness (even without words), males are better at showing anger (without words) than females. Personality- extrovert (outgoing, social) vs introvert (shy, doesn"t show feeling); introverts are better at reading people"s emotions.
