Disease caused by falciparum malaria- from a mosquito: frequency is high where there is malaria. There is selection for heterozygous- resistance to malaria. Geographic distribution and fitness: homozygous normal has reduced fitness, homozygous sca has reduced fitness, heterozygous has increased fitness. Lactase enzyme: breaks up lactose into constituent parts. Glucose and galactose: milk sugar- lactose, most mammals lose the ability to produce lactase after weaning. Adult lactose intolerance- normal way to be mammal: normal lactose digestion.
