Tweaking and keeping the old system-it is less risky, less time, can prove costly. It has more problems in the future with support of the legacy system. Implementation of the new system can prove risky and time consuming. Bigger organizations have a formal and well defined process whereas small orgs do not require an extensive process to get new systems but are encouraged to apply rational financial thinking to getting new applications. All the it planning starts with organizational strategic plan. It is always to support to business goals and the alignment happens when the it realizes what the company desires to achieve and what constraints it faces and decides to step in if feasible. The strategic plan defines goals and it initiatives and it has to align with the it infrastructure. Big and complex organizations have more resources and more avenues to invest those resources so allocation is important and therefore planning and prioritizing is important.
