Europeans are the greatest bene ciaries of this process. They accommodate themselves to the conditions in these new lands. How europeans deal with these challenges are determined by what they bring with them (customs, etc) and the traditions in these new lands - product of mixing cultures. They have the mines and the haciendas which require labor. Mita system of labor > communities supply a portion of their adult male population to work for the state > spanish used it to force these people to work in the mines > incredibley harsh deadly. It is forced labor but not slavory. It is not slavery because a slave can be bought and sold on the market and these people aren"t. Distinction without a difference: still being treated horribly, slavery in a generic sense, but those people could not have been sold and moved to somewhere else. Degree of adopting indigenous native american system.
