By 1945 farm production had doubled: small farm: as production increases there is a focus on massive production, this means the small farmer gets cut out. Products such as tires, sugar, coffee, and meat were rationed. Production on cars and non defense housing was stopped. Americans did become discontent on price controls and labor shortages. In 1942 republicans made gains in congress and conservative congressmen started dissembling new. Women: benefitted the most, labor demands pulled women into the workforce and military. Women were barred from holding a position where they would supervise men. African americans: more than 1 million african americans served in war but it was segregated, marks beginning of civil rights movement, naacp gained a ton of members coming out of the war. Active african american community fighting discrimination and segregation: a philip randolph 1941.
