Document Summary

Questions to consider: the bible has a code of justice. Broadly speaking, there are two forms of justice: retributive -> against crime, distributive -> social justice. Redistribution of wealth between rich and poor. Justice is an eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth, foot for foot, etc. The law applies for everyone -> so yes. It is also implied that the slave and slave owner would be treated differently -> not fair. There is no distinction made for acts of self defense. Doesn"t matter which person did the crime. What matters is the effects of the crime on the larger community. Consequences of the crime are the same, so punishment is the same. There is a distinction between premediated crime and other crime. Consequences are more important than the intent. Purpose of punishment -> not for vengeance. You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
