Document Summary

Back during his time, there wasn"t really a division between ethics and politics -> you were defined in your political participation. Didn"t think just anyone young or old could participate - had to practice them repeatedly. Aristotle - no time for the youth, shouldn"t waste time educating them. Wants you to do something more than just passive contemplation that. Every action aims at some good -> every action should achieve some type of goal. So, "the good" is thought to be that at which all things aim. In those, the product is "better" than the action that produces them. In society, there are many arts (professions) that lead to many ends. Example: medicine -> leads to health, shipbuilding -> leads to vessel, etc. Yet, the ends of the master arts are better than any of the subordinate ends that make them up. Example: art of riding -> encompassed bridle-making, etc.
