Populism is an american invention the people"s party 1885-1894. Both democrat and republican: racism, 1893 depression, cleveland"s sec of agriculture says that farmers do not need aid in a nasty way. Because elections were coming up, this impacted their votes substantially: 1894 election = 10% of the vote, main contribution notion of a people arrayed against a plutocratic elite that refused to grant necessary reforms. Revolutions often begin when securities are taken away from the people: first european populist parties, rightwing, evolution, 1970s anti-tax movement- attack on coddling of communist, welfare recipients, and immigrants.
