Chapter 3: democratic political regimes: democracy- a political system in which the rulers are accountable to the ruled. Proportional electoral system: majoritarian, electoral- translate citizens" votes into legislative seats and/or control of a directly elected executive. Consequences: election of parties to parliament i. e. impact on the party system, proportionality of votes to seats, production of coalition or single-party governments, provision of constituency service/impact of case work. Impact of levels of electoral turnout: representation of social groups, plurality & majority rule- largest share of votes wins.
