Cognitive therapies explore the belief systems of the patient. Rational-emotive therapy: also known as the abc model. Albert ellis imposes his own standards on the client. Based on counter conditioning: exposure (flooding) Coercing someone to confront a fear/situation until panic response is reduced. New technology virtual reality: behavioral records. Patient keeps records of behavior he/she wants to change. Physician teaches client skills he/she may lack. Especially good for children: evaluating behavior therapy: successes and problems: Good with various mental health problems, mental disability and delinquency.
