PSY 011 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Classical Conditioning, Little Albert Experiment, Psych
Document Summary
These are natural responses elicited by organisms that do not require previous learning or association. They are brought about by unconditioned stimuli, which are stimuli that we have a genetic predisposition to react to. Something in a newborn"s mouth / sucking re ex. A neutral stimulus is a stimulus that doesn"t at rst, before conditioning, elicit a response. This neutral stimulus will be paired with an unconditioned stimulus so that an association is made. This pairing should be established multiple times in order to turn the neutral stimulus into a conditioned stimulus. This conditioned stimulus that formed by association with an unconditioned stimulus will form a conditioned response. The conditioned response does not always have to be exactly identical to the unconditioned response, but it should be somewhat similar. Pavlov"s famous experiment with his dogs and salivation at the sound of a metronome.
