Document Summary
Nearly every child is attached to at least one person. The study of the evolutionary bases of behavior behavior characteristics that may have been shaped by evolution. Konrad lorenz (1903-1989) father of this thing. Imprinting the process by which new born birds and small mammals become (precocials) attached by their moms immediately and follow them. In the critical period (short time) if they don"t find a large moving object, they will never imprint. They have no choice, they do that and that"s it. Human attachment has a survival reason behind. We don"t imprint but we are drawn by other humans. We don"t know because it wouldn"t be ethical to isolate a child to study attachment. Adoptive studies the longer kids are in institutional settings (orphanages, etc) the harder it is for them to adapt. Took new born monkeys and kept them in isolation from birth to six months, then they were put in social settings with other monkeys.
