Stereotypes: organized sets of belief about any group of people. Experiment where people are assigned to arbitrary groups and perform tasks based on group membership. Tendency to perceive out-group members alike, and those in the group as distinct. Prejudice: negative feeling towards people based on their membership in a group. Realistic conflict theory: out-group hostility caused by competition for limited resources. Social identity theory people favour in-groups over out-groups in order to enhance self-esteem.
