Major job of the therapist is to identify which problem area is relevant to the patient and work to improve the client"s functioning in that area. Focuses on stresses within the family as a whole rather than on individuals, and places responsibility for recovery on both the client and relatives. Involves an initial focus on recruiting parents to engage in managing the patients weight gain and eating. Manuals that hope to distribute info and strategies concerning eating disorders. Heterogeneity tendency for people with disorder to differ from each other in symptoms, family, personal background, response to treatment and ability to live outside of the hospital. Age of onset: 15-25 years" old, men and women have equal risk. Positive exaggerated, distorted adaptations of normal behavior; psychotic symptoms. Delusions implausible beliefs that persist despite reliable contradictory evidence.
