When any organism that undergoes creates sperm and eggs. Why sexually reproducing species do a better job of surviving. It takes two sets of genetics and scrambling so offspring is always unique. The amount of genetic info that"s propagated from one generation to the next. When you have a clone, it takes a long time to form genetic diversity. The only way you get is through random mutations. You wont get a lot of it otherwise. when you have a great amount of diversity in population, one single change in environment isn"t enough to kill off species bc theres enough variation. When environmental factors change, the species die off if they cant adapt. This is advantageous primarily bc even what we consider problematic genes can save you in the right conditions. Any species that reproduces sexually produces wide amount of genetic diversity. What happens during these phases is different from mitosis.
