One must accomplish the task of earlier stages before moving on to the later stages. Trust vs mistrust: love and security, attachment, care takers (contact) Autonomy vs doubt and shame: walking, talking, etc, learning from and acceptance of mistakes. Initiative vs guilt: imagination, what you want to do. 12 years old late teens and early 20s: i am what i can make/build , learning, making things/how things work. Identity vs role confusion: *identity formation, identity moratorium rework earlier stages. Adulthood: intimacy = ability to form close, meaningful relationships (not only love relationships, you need a strong sense of identity or you can"t really share your true self with someone. Generativity vs stagnation: giving back to others/the world, feeling that you have contributed to the world.
