The internet blurs media boundaries: ex: netflix and hulu ( tv content online) Computers are not the internet: computers are the tool used to access the internet, computers ae both senders and receivers. We don"t use other technology in that way. The internet is used for 3 communication types/goals. Code shift from analog to digital: the internet allows us to transmit content digitally. Characteristics of the internet that are changing mass media: convergence. Ability of different media to interact in parallel digital formats: enhanced interactivity. Ability to customize your experience and information to your needs and interests. Computers are a product of the 20th century: pascal crude computer concept in the 1600s, 1940, harvard used binary code, upen eniac, 1950, bell lab transistor, microprocessor, 1980s first pcs. The internet comes about at the department of defense (1969: arpanet military communication and secure channels (security) The internet as a mass media: world wide web.
