ANTH 9 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Feminist Archaeology, Androcentrism, Gender Studies
Document Summary
Woman"s archaeology is constituted by three themes that we will discuss individually: political feminism, gender theory, historical revision about the accomplishments of women. Gender roles were not discussed in archaeology until the middle 1980s. Political feminism: feminist archaeology is political nature, the goal of feminist archaeology is to change the male dominated basis of society, archaeology, and view of the past and make is a more balanced representation that includes women. This includes the role of women in the archaeological profession: equal opportunity in employment, recognition within professional and academic archaeology. Advancement within a university or business although available to women is designed for men e. g. no maternity leave. E. g. short term contract employment is a hardship for men and women but more for women with child care responsibilities. Women are absent in top management positions and tend to specialize in archaeological housework such as artifact analysis and conservation.
