BIO 11 Lecture Notes - Lecture 25: Abdominopelvic Cavity, Bronchiole, Trachea
Document Summary
Nose + nasal cavity - encased by cranial and facial bones. Bronchial tree - divide from bronchi until they become tiny bronchioles. Upper respiratory tract - passageways from nasal cavity to larynx. Lower respiratory tract - passageways from trachea to alveoli in the lungs. Organs of the respiratory system classified functionally into the conducting and respiratory zones. Conducting zone tubes are the conduits through which air travels on its way in and out of the body - air is filtered, warmed & moistened as it travels through nose, nasal cavity, bronchioles. Respiratory zone is where gases are exchanged alveoli. Pulmonary ventilation - movement of air in and out of the lungs. Pulmonary gas exchange - movement of gases between the lungs and the blood. Gas transport - movement of gases through the blood. Tissue gas exchange = movement of gases between the blood and the tissues. Helping to expel contents of the abdominopelvic cavity.
