Document Summary

Fluid filled organ that is divided into 3 layers: Cornea transparent that allows light to pass through. Ciliary body contains the muscle which changes the shape of the lens (i. e. , focus) Iris sits in front of the lens. Retina where the photoreceptors are sitting. Optic disk where the blood vessels and axons enter and exit (blind spot) Increasing lens curvature enables the eye to focus on near objects. When viewing things very close, you would have to bend the light a lot, which means you need a thick lens to do the light bending. Ciliary muscle is relaxed; assumes larger diameter and pulls back, resulting in a thin lens. Ciliary muscle is contracted; inner diameter is reduced and lens forms a spherical shape, increasing refractive power of lens. The lens is too spherical and too strong for the length of eyeball.
