People in the uk didn"t have their own pop culture due to the world war. They borrowed american pop culture and had a lot of rock and roll. Mccartney brought a friend named george harrison. They all loved music and formed a band that played skiffle music: skiffle is a music genre with jazz, blues, folk and american folk influences, usually using a combination of manufactured and homemade or improvised instruments. Influenced mainly by lonnie donegan at first. John lennon then heard elvis presley and fell in love with his type of music. After hearing elvis, the band wanted to switch to rock n roll. Then liked buddy holly"s band, the crickets and changed their name to the. They finally shortened their name, also using a play on words, to the beatles. Played in hamburg and got their first following from there: top ten club, star club. Went back to liverpool: played at the cavern club, 1961.
