PHIL 1 Lecture Notes - Lecture 15: Adventitiousness, Empirical Evidence
Document Summary
But, i find it hard to beelive that i know my mind more than my own body. Take a piece of wax: i can acknowledge its color, its size, its smell, etc. However, if i bring it closer to an open flame, its qualities change: it smells different, it will become smaller, etc. Yet, despite all of its perceptible qualities changing, i can still know that it is the same wax that i start with. Thus, instead of perceiving the wax through my senses, i perceive this wax throguh the mind alone. Going further, my knowledge of bodies depends on the mind. Thus, my mind is still more accessible to me then bodies, because my access to bodies relies on my mind. The mind and the body are two completely different things. I havent yet proven the existence of anything other than my mind. But i cannot correspond these thought to any external object.
