Document Summary

In addition to classical and operant conditioning, another way that we can learn has been described as observational learning. The name of this theory is fairly self-explanatory we learn by observing the behaviours of others. We see other people engage in different behaviours, we see the consequences of those behaviours, and we learn from these observations. Observational learning is also known as modeling, and a model is the individual who demonstrates a behaviour or serves as an example in an observational setting. Many behaviours can be acquired through observational learning! Drinking behaviour, or drug use in teenagers can often be acquired through observational learning. Fear can also be acquired through observational learning if a child sees a parent demonstrating fear towards a certain stimulus. (memory) According to the atkinson-shiffrin model, there are three separate memory system: sensory memory, short term memory, and long term memory.
