PSYC 6 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Classical Conditioning, Psych, Little Albert Experiment
Document Summary
Differentiate between us, ur, cs, and cr. test trials- ns alone and measured reflex. Something that can be seen or heard. Neutral stimulus- unrelated to salivary reflex like a bell. Conditioning trial- pairing of neutral stimulus and ur. Conditioned stimulus- clicking of metronome produces salivation. Conditioned response- same as unconditioned response, but elicited by different. Although similar, cr usually weaker than ur. Describe acquisition, extinction, spontaneous recovery, generalization, discrimination, second-order condition, and blocking. Acquisition- gradual formation of an association between a conditioned stimulus and an unconditioned stimulus. Contiguity- important that acquisition occurs together in time. Conditioned stimulus stronger if right before than after or during. Second-order conditioning- form of learning when a cs becomes meaningful, then serves as a us for another cs. Helps account for complexity of learned associations. Extinction- when conditioned response is extinguished when conditioned stimulus. Spontaneous recovery- after some time, extinguished cs will once again produce no longer predicts unconditioned stimulus.
