Cartesian split: the way we view, talk about, and represent others is influenced by culture, western belief says that the mind is separate from the body, etc. The human mind thinks in a binary opposition. We all live in a global network of people, things, ideas, etc. Anthropology consists of 4 main sub-fields: physical / biological anthropology. Forensics; identifying of bones; investigation of people, primates, etc. Connection between biology and who we are: archeological anthropology. Everything human made: buildings, social organizations, art and entertainment. Rich/poor, class, wealth: influenced by gender and the environment, social / cultural anthropology. Anthropology of the body the symbolic body. Mary douglass the body symbolizes the community/culture of the individual: the body can symbolize and be culture.
