Hard work (based on motivation) + ability = success. The social relations in school corresponds to and reproduces the social relations of work and external social class relations. Occurs through student/teacher/administrator relationships: students similar to workers no power, students learn to learn and work for external rewards (grades, money, etc. ) Grouping and tracking create different experiences and teach different skills to children of poor and working class backgrounds as compared to children of middle and upper class backgrounds. Members of each social class pass on to their children knowledge, dispositions, and skills that middle and upper class children bring to school.
