PSY-P 335 Lecture Notes - Lecture 25: Ambiguous Image, Chessboard, Sketchpad
Document Summary
If separate: performance is worse when pointing vs speaking bc both will be visual. Visual interferes more with visual than with verbal & vice versa: separate stores. Primary task: reproduction of chessboard positions is visual. Secondary: interferes with 1 of 3 components of working memory. If separate stores will have no efect bc not visual memory. Tap a series of keys in a predetermined pattern: prevent visual spatial sketchpad & interfere with location of chess pieces bc also visual. Produce stream of random letters: interfere with the central executive bc coming up with strategy for choosing random letters. Should interfere with position recall bc both tasks tap into central executive. Compared all tasts with performance in condiiton with no other task to be performed in retention interval(just recalling chess position) Results: (cid:272)ounting didn"t interfere tapping/generating letters did interfere remembered less than the control condition(just position) Separate visual & verbal store, central executive is invovled.
